In Memoriam
Beloved mezzo-soprano Teresa Berganza has died in Madrid in May, age 89.
Admired for her warm toned voice and precise coloratura, she specialized in the operas of Mozart and Rossini and later became, in the words of Herbert von Karajan, “the Carmen of the century”.
In recital she charmed the Carnegie Hall aficionados (in dove gray silk with matching slippers) with model mélodies and lieder, a lesson in European elegance.
Ms. Berganza's death adds to the list of great Spanish female singers we have lost, which includes Victoria de Los Angeles and Montserrat Caballé. Is this the end of an era?
DALTON BALDWIN
December 19, 1931 –December 12, 2019
It is with profound sadness
that we at Joy In Singing announce
the passing of our great mentor, teacher and friend,
Dalton Baldwin.
Please join us in remembering this glorious musician who brought us all together to share in the love and performance of The Art Song.
